Canmore-raised and a BFA graduate of Emily Carr University of Art and Design(2017), Louis Trautman explores “borrowed Nostalgia”, layering imagery drawn from research and travel into cinemati, vintage-inspired compositions saturated with symbolism and muted colour, threaded with vaguely suggested narrative. Rooted in conceptual photography and shaped by a strong command of colour theory, his work translates the texture and visual language of the 60’s- 90’s into pointed commentary on contemporary culture.
